Animals Impacted by Natural Disasters

by Jason Merrihew on 06/19/2012

Natural disasters impact every living creature that reside in the impacted areas. Currently, Colorado is experiencing tremendous wildfires. Last Friday, I visited Advanced Animal Care of Colorado, an AAHA-accredited practice in Fort Collins. They are acting as an overflow shelter for the local humane society. Dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and even a turtle were among the 60 animals taking refuge in the hospital while I was there. Although the entire staff was exhausted for working insane hours to take care of the animals, its easy to see that their hard work is making a difference. Below is a short video of some of the dogs playing in the hospital pool. Thank you to AACC, all AAHA members in the Front Range, and the countless number of organizations/individuals that are helping out.
