The cure to loneliness

by Sarah Rumple on 08/13/2012

We all feel lonely from time to time, but there are certain times when loneliness is inevitable. Kids growing up and moving out, divorce, the loss of a close loved one or pet...all of these situations can leave one feeling sad and alone.

For young adults, the first year of college is an example of one of these situations. Leaving the familiarity of home, loved ones, friends, and pets, and moving to some faraway place with people you don't know can feel overwhelming.

Recently, an AAHA staffer shared this photo of her sister Meaghan, who goes to college out of state, and her new puppy, "Tank Bigboy Murphy." Now, instead of feeling homesick and lonely in her new home, Meaghan is sending her sister daily photos of herself smiling with Tank. Although she may still have her homesick days, Tank is by her side, keeping her occupied, happy, and fulfilled.

We can't think of a better way to conquer that lonely feeling.
